THE BACK STORY: Sugar are a pop quintet from Manchester, consisting of Mathew Petit (Vocals, Guitar), Avani James (Keyboards), Connor Synnott (Bass), Tiago Pereira (Lead Guitar) and João Vaz (Drums).
The band started out creating DIY synth pop and recreating this live, originally as a fourpiece. Releasing their debut ‘I Never Said; in 2017 they spent their time playing venues on the local circuit in Manchester developing the live set.
Since then the band has enhanced the sound with the addition of live drums and a new guitarist. SUGAR’s new music is a true reflection of their live sound and a change of pace from what you’ve heard from them before ‘You can definitely hear more dream pop and shoe gaze elements in our new music which we really love’ Vocalist Mathew defines the new direction.
‘Late Night’ is their new single released on the 17th May ‘Late Night is a song that has stuck with us since we started and oddly it is still everyone in
the bands favourite song. The song is about mental health, particularly the feeling of being comfortable in your anxiety or depression. When it’s been there for so long you are used to it and don’t really have the motivation to do anything about it. I’m sure it’s quite a common feeling but I don’t think it’s one that gets spoken about enough.”
