INTRODUCING – Penelope Isles

THE BACK STORY: Brighton-based four-piece Penelope Isles are surely the perfect band to soundtrack the current UK heatwave. Comprising brother and sister Jack and Lily Wolter, plus Becky Redford and Jack Sowton, this hotly-tipped outfit have been quietly going about their business for the past two years, charming fans and critics alike with their fuzzy, sun-kissed indie-pop bangers.

After signing to Bella Union earlier this year, the band are looking firmly poised to make the jump to the big league – especially once the world hears their sublime new debut LP, Until The Tide Creeps In.

Evoking The Magic Numbers, Real Estate and Grizzly Bear, theirs is a sound defined by lush harmonies, buoyant pop melodies and dewy-eyed exuberance – very much the perfect soundtrack to lazy summer afternoons reclining on the grass whilst enjoying a cold beverage. Most importantly, though, Penelope Isles make the sort of music you feel hugely invested in: their debut album is largely inspired by the close sibling relationship between Jack and Lily Wolter, and their fears and anxieties about entering adulthood.

A band that you’ll surely fall in love with over the summer months – but, rest assured, your passion for Penelope Isles will no doubt survive (and endure) throughout all the seasons.

KEY TRACK: ‘Leipzig’ – their most instant, accessible track, this shimmery dream-pop number provides the perfect introduction to the band’s appealing blend of DIY aesthetic and winning pop classicism.
