Album Review: Oliver Koletzki – ‘Fire in the Jungle’

Oliver Koletzki is back with ‘Fire in the Jungle’, his eighth studio album released on his own label Stil Vor Talent. The Berlin-based DJ and producer has been refining his skills over the past two years ever since releasing Fire in the Jungle‘s predecessor ‘’The Arc Of Tension’’. In this time Koletzki has traveled far and wide and there are a number of geographical and musical influences on this LP.

The album features a number of additions from highly respected members of the electronic sphere, including; Monolink, Township Rebellion, and Hidden Empire, as well as a few other welcome surprises. These artists blend perfectly with Koletzki’s signature sound, adding their own influences and inspirations to mold a perfectly solid album. There is a wide range of tracks presented to us on ‘Fire in the Jungle’, ranging from the full-on and bass-heavy dance floor anthems to slower and stifling tracks. It’s an album that is exotic, eclectic, and it manages to maintain the listeners’ attention throughout.

The standout highlights on this album are ‘Endorphins’, ‘The Arctic Voice’ and ‘Away’, the former being a prime example of Koletzki’s sound, a rumbling ball of energy with a euphoric climax that we’ve become accustomed to hearing, ‘The Arctic Voice’ is a perfect blend of talent that culminates in a track that wouldn’t go amiss in most melodic techno sets and the latter ‘Away’ is a beautiful and haunting album closer. The album attempts to highlight themes of climate change throughout, is it successful? That’s up to you to decide but one thing for certain is that this album is fierce, fiery and fresh.
