Introducing: The Illicits

The Backstory: The four-piece band from Blackburn, have been newly-signed by Alan McGee to his Creation 23 label, and are the vital, essential guitar band the UK music scene has been waiting for, creating what Alan McGee has described as “terrace punk”.

Having just finished a run of dates supporting the man himself, Liam Gallagher on his arena tour, These 4 lads have had a great 2019. They became the first band ever to appear on Soccer AM without releasing any music when they performed live on the show earlier this year. They’ve signed a record deal. They’ve played in stadiums including Sheffield, Manchester, and Liverpool arenas. They are also set to support Primal Scream on the Scottish dates of their current UK tour in the coming days.

To top all of this off The Illicits have just released their AA single for Left Behind / Born Slippy which will knock you off your feet when you hear it!

With such great opportunities coming their way they are sure to be making waves across the country in 2020. but opportunities don’t mean squat if the music aint good…..good thing it’s brilliant then! The brand new track Left Behind is a modern take on the original punk sound. instantly kicks you in the face with the first strum of the guitar! which is not a surprise when you find out that the track features Sex Pistols legend Steve Jones on guitar. Steve recorded his part at Atticus Ross’ (Nine Inch Nails) studio in LA.

The other track on the AA Single is a cover of the Underworld classic “Born Slippy” which has become a firm fan favourite at live shows, with the band encoring with the 90s classic.

This latest AA side release follows the vinyl-only release of debut single “In What World”. The record sold-out on pre-sales alone, entering the vinyl charts at Number 4 on release. To date the band have focused on physical releases only, avoiding streaming as they’ve built their reputation on word of mouth.

To top the year of the band will be playing a headline show in their hometown of Blackburn on December 21st at Saint George’s Hall
