Mr. Scruff, Awesome Tapes From Africa & SNO at Yellow Arch Studios, Sheffield

To celebrate three years of incredible events, Sheffield party throwers La Rumba showcased a stellar lineup of acts known for their eclectic taste in grooves from around the world. The lineup included the likes of Manchester producer and record junkie Mr. Scruff, obscure and rare music enthusiast Awesome Tapes From Africa and South African born SNO.

Fans flocked in their numbers to Yellow Arch Studios, situated in the heart of Sheffield’s up and coming neighbourhood, Kelham Island. The building started life as an Edwardian nuts and bolts factory and is most famously known as the birthplace of Arctic Monkeys debut album ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’. Yellow Arch Studios opened as a venue in 2015 and has hosted a diverse range of acts from the Blossoms to the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra.

La Rumba’s event at Yellow Arch studios provided a selection of exciting acts in three different rooms. All areas were furnished with bohemian style interior and there was even a chill out room with ambient lighting for anyone needing some downtime.

Local DJ’s Marcelo Mader and Apricot Ballroom Soundsystem supplied the cafe with a great choice of tunes from start to finish. SNO kicked off the night in the main room with a brilliant warm up, which was followed up by an impressive cassette tape set of sought after gems by Awesome Tapes From Africa. Mr. Scruff blew the crowd away in the warehouse with a killer five hour set flitting between choices of soul, funk, hip hop, Latin and anything groovy.

The atmosphere around the place was tremendous, the crowd was in top spirits and smiles could be seen from pillar to post. No attitudes, no ego’s, no nonsense just a welcoming crowd of people wanting to dance and have a good time.
