INTRODUCING: LUNCH MONEY LIFE

Describing themselves as ‘Apocalypse music’ the London based experimental jazz quintet have thrown together jazz with wonky electronics to create a sound that is hard to compare.

Listening to their music is an experience in itself, flowing from Vaporwave styled Unlimited Ice Cream Palace to Superego, a track that could easily be made by Burial. This makes it hard to categorise them, a word is rarely spoken through any single one of their tracks outside of that transposed, Blank Banshee style, into something barely legible and instruments flow in and out with regularity.

Early singles such as Living3000 would fit comfortably into the mould of record labels such as Dream Catalogue while later singles evolve to lie closer to that of Brainfeeders contemporary catalogue adding further to the confusion some people have had with their musical journey since their 2016 debut. Adding further to this band’s eclectic story everything they have recorded has been in All Saints Church, Haggerston, though hard to tell from the quality of production.

Listen to Lunch Money Life

The music itself is aggressive, combative and sometimes hard to listen to, with bursts of noise and sharp saxophones riffs over persistent drums. In some elements there music is akin to that of the Comets are Coming (having worked with producer Danalogue on their new album) while in others it takes on the stylings of Iglooghost and his experimental electronics. To me they have been full of surprises not stopping at just music, their website recently changing to feature a game aping the aesthetic of PS1 Skate games which also garnered attention.

Their new album Immersion Chamber is out now and worth its run time.
