INTRODUCING: SWIM SCHOOL

THE BACKSTORY:

When the Edinburgh based band first went into the studio with producer Mark Morrow, the band hadn’t even decided on a name. In this session 2 years ago the band recorded their debut single “Sway” which saw the band propelled onto the many Scottish ‘ones to watch in 2020’ accolades they were afforded. Still in their teens and having already toured with acts including the XCERTS it’s little wonder the band are still tipped as one of the most exciting new artists in Scotland.

Like all great bands Swim School are musical magpies, absorbing influences from across genres, time and a wide swath of artists and turning them into something that’s their own. Folding in the timelessness of The Cure or The House of Love, the rich sonic palette of Ride, Slowdive or Lush, the magnetic attraction of Wolf Alice or The Big Moon and the wonky, fragile pop of Beabadoobee – Swim School are everything a modern progressive pop band should be.

Although this year’s plans may have been slightly derailed by the outbreak of COVID-19, we still expect to be hearing a lot from the band later in the year. Frontwoman Alice Johnson, whose Cranberrys-Esque vocals carry the dreamy melodies of the songs was part of our lockdown Instagram live series.
