SINGLE REVIEW: THE EMPIRE POLICE – REAL LIFE

THE EMPIRE POLICE CURE OUR LOCKDOWN BLUES WITH NEW SINGLE ‘REAL LIFE’

While we are still living our life indoors, and the prospect of gigs seem so far away, new music is needed now more than ever. Luckily, Lancashire lads The Empire Police have delivered with one of their best singles yet.

Mastered by Forward Studios and produced by Dave Pemberton, ‘Real Life’ was self-released by the boys today. The track oozes grit and power, with an insanely catchy melody and guitar line (which will absolutely stick in your head… not that I’m complaining!). Jordao Bassa indulges in his raw, northern vocals – broody and deep, perfectly complimenting the higher, intricate guitar lines. A match made in heaven.

The lyrics, when isolated, come with an irony that is apt for the the ‘new normal’ world we are living in. “Real life is happening outside.” Which, of course, it isn’t as life seems anything but real at the moment. But perhaps it is this that makes the single such a powerful release. As we indulge in new music, we must not forget it is those creating it who are allowing us to, if only briefly, imagine that real life is in fact happening outside.

The Empire Police are a band worth keeping your eye on, their music is polished yet gritty – true to what it wants to be. Intricate instrumentals with wildly powerful vocals. They just keep getting better!
