Album Review: Love Keeps Kicking by Martha

4/5 – Northern punks return with a strong third album, adding to their already formidable discography

Durham-based punk outfit Martha are back with their third album, ‘Love Keeps Kicking’

Hot off the back of their previous albums, ‘Courting Strong’ and ‘Blisters In The Pit Of My Heart’ hey’ve managed to maintain their DIY identity whilst progressing considerably as one of the UK’s finest underground bands. Utilising the blend of electric guitars, delicate riffs, and Northern accents, Martha have pioneered a new sound that arguably could be the future of alternative music in the UK.

Having released the singles ‘Heart is Healing’ ‘Over This’ and ‘Love Keeps Kicking’ the album pans out over a broad horizon with lyrical talent oozing from all corners of the release. Catchy hooks such as in ‘sight for Sore Eyes’ engage the listener effectively, whilst short more aggressive songs like ‘Wrestlemania VIII’ really bring back to the older, more punky stylings of their first album.

Having just headlined Manchester Punk Festival over the Easter Bank Holiday, and with a slot at 2000 Trees coming up this year, Martha are definitely ones to watch throughout 2019.

Listen to: “Wrestlemania VIII” and “Orange Juice”
