Alt-Hip Hop artist gives SOUNDS an exclusive on his curious appellation…
Diminutive Arthur is the persona of emerging Alternative Hip Hop artist Lewis Cain who hails from Manchester in the UK. The 21-year-old has had a passion for Hip Hop culture since a young age; taking influence from the likes of Wu Tang and Shyheim as well as contemporary artists such as King Krule and Earl Sweatshirt, now, Diminutive Arthur is set to release his debut EP ‘These Days’ on Friday, 31st May.
In between high school and late-night skateboarding excursions Cain began writing raps as a means of channelling his own introspective outlook on life and his peers, now while spending time sampling anything he can get his hands on – namely old funk, jazz and soul records – he collaborates with other aspiring artists to curate a smooth, lo-fi and distinct sound.
SOUNDS recently spoke to DA about the meaning behind his chosen moniker:
“Basically, Diminutive just came from me being relatively small in stature and the Arthur part came from King Arthur – King Arthur was seen as this great warrior defending Britain from all kinds of things, even the supernatural… he would slay all adversaries, so I just played on the concept of me being small but battling and dealing with a lot of big problems and what not”
With Cain recently featuring on a track spun by Huw Stephens on Radio 1, it’s safe to say slaying dragons isn’t the only thing on Diminutive Arthur’s agenda this early on in his career…
