Emerging from London’s forthcoming jazz scene is the phenomenally groovy five-piece, PYJÆN. Fronted by Ezra Collectives trumpeter, Dylan Jones, PYJÆN mix electro, funk, afro-beat and 1920’s original jazz to create a real fusion of seamless sound.
The rest of the band consists of Ben Vize (sax), Charlie Hutchinson (drums), Ben Crane (bass) and Dani Diodato (guitar). The London band met at Trinity Laban College of Music and Dance whilst studying jazz music, very apt.
In preparation for their recently released self-titled debut album, PYJÆN toured the UK playing at a number of iconic venues such as Jazz Cafe, Vortex Jazz Club and Ronnie Scotts. They also played Glastonbury, Love Supreme and Brainchild.
The album, released in September, received praise for its ability to stand out in what’s becoming a crowded scene. Described by Jazz Wise Review as having “a groove propelled with dynamism and formidable technique” PYJÆN are definitely leaving their stamp on the fruitful UK jazz scene.
