IT’S THAT DAY AGAIN… THURSDAY!

We’ve decided to have a quick lil revamp on the ‘What’s On This Weekend?’ section, and change it to ‘What’s On This Week’, because Thursday’s might not be the beginning of the end for a lot of you if you have the luxury of working in retail or hospitality (other weekend working jobs are available). So lo and behold, a revised edition of ‘What’s On’ for you to have a nosey at, maybe indulge and have a splurge on a gig ticket or two…

MANCHESTER

Ah, Manchester. Land of the great (maybe I’m a little biased) and where you are in no shortage of amazing gigs to go to and new music to find. There are a couple of smaller venues on here, maybe a couple you haven’t heard of – but you should definitely go to.

ALBERT HALL – THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH

09/11/19

Surreal and dreamlike Kristian Matsson returns to Manchester as The Tallest Man On Earth, performing his latest record ‘I Love You. It’s A Fever Dream.’ released in April. On his last UK date on the tour it’s set to be an atmospheric gig, and luckily enough for you there are still tickets left. If you’re looking for something to tug at your heart strings, lift you up and bring you straight back down again in the best kind of way, then you’ve got to be here.

LONDON

I thought Manchester was inundated with with gigs and shows to go to… boy was I mistaken! I know London is bigger than Manchester, but christ, this takes the biscuit. OVAL SPACE – SPECTOR

13/11/19

The lovely five-piece, who were hailed as one of the guitar band’s last big hopes when they emerged in 2011, are back with loads of new releases and new gigs too! With shimmering and immersive pop songs just don’t stop coming from these guys, and their latest single ‘Simplicity’ is no different. Frontman Fred Macpherson explains that the track is about “[walking] away from the things that make you unhappy” and to “be less selfish, less bitter.” I think that’s something we could all do with a bit of!

INDIGO AT THE O2 – SQUEEZE

08/11/19

Why don’t you head on Up The Junction to see Squeeze tomorrow night? The South London legends came onto the scene some forty years ago, but their songs have stood the test of time and don’t show any signs of ageing! This date has been added to their tour The Difford and Tilbrook Songbrook 2019. The tour will be in support of The Trussell Trust, with drop points and collection boxes where can donate money or non-perishables which they don’t need anymore.

ALEXANDRA PALACE – VAMPIRE WEEKEND

13/11/19 & 14/11/19

Vampire Weekend are back, back, back in our lives and we welcome them with open arms. Their latest album ‘Father Of The Bride’ comes with heavy feature from Danielle Haim, a walking talking goddess, and is a jaunty and fun album that truly emulates the joy that comes from Vampire Weekend. Of course they’ll be doing their old stuff too, which have never stopped being bops, tbh. You need to be here.
