INTRODUCING – Arlo Parks

THE BACK STORY – A new generation of great young poets are emerging and one of them is no doubt someone to watch! Arlo Parks is an artist growing in popularity for her niche way of combining soothing songs with an emotional rollercoaster of lyrics, creating soft indie music for the heartbroken and the happy at the same time.

Raised in Hammersmith, the 19 year old Londoner is making a big name for herself for such a
young age, with popular singles such as ‘George’, ‘Sophie’ and ‘Second Guessing’. Arlo Parks recently supported Loyle Carner on his Not Waving But Drowning tour this year, and was most recently in collaboration with Easy Life on their song ‘Sangria’. This is no doubt going to have an effect on the singers’ popularity and she will soon blow up.

Her verses carry the likeliness of Billie Eilish, over which you’ll hear beats reminiscent of SZA’s soothing tracks. The lyrics are deeply crushing, yet harmonically perfect, creating tranquility and a soulful, angelic feel. Combining soft rock with the coming of age genre bedroom pop, Arlo Parks’ genre has a hint of new wave emo music. Even without the reference to emo icon Gerald Way in her most popular song, ‘Cola’ which has recently hit 100k views, there is a subtle element of this genre in all her songs which is satisfying to most people of this generation, especially merged with hip hop beats and a chilled out melody.

Arlo Parks is sure to pull at your heart strings with her stories, and if her lyrics don’t attract you (which we’re sure they will), then the catchy grooves and euphonious voice will be sure to please you.
