INTRODUCING: DUTCH CRIMINAL RECORD

THE BACKSTORY:

After well over half a decade of making music this south coast quartet are still writing with the same charm and energy that they showed on their self-title debut EP in 2014. At the centre of their sound always lies a sun-like warmth that radiates from the synergy between the warm vocals and Marr-esque guitars. Despite having three vocalists throughout their discography, there is always a consistently bright and energetic delivery that takes the listener by the scruff of the neck and makes them have a good time.

Hailing from the sleepy middle-class city of Chichester, Dutch Criminal Record offer a clean-cut sound akin to early Vampire Weekend but with a coastal English twist that constantly conjures up images of sand dunes and sandals. Possibly one of the worst bands to listen to during lockdown, their EP’s are now essentially the musical equivalent of watching your friends play outside from your bedroom window… but if you ask me upbeat songs about a better time is just what the doctor ordered right now.

KEY TRACK: ‘Stuck Between’ – with vocals that walk the Casablancan line this get-up-and-shout indie track is the perfect microcosm of what the DCR sound.
